Our History
Arnie Makeeff began driving truck in 1953 and in 1967 purchased his first truck and became an owner operator leased to various companies. In 1972, Arnie went entirely on his own and formed Makeeff Trucking.
In 1974, after serving four years in the United States Air Force, Terry Makeeff returned home and entered into a partnership with Arnie.
Joshua Makeeff, Terry’s middle child, has been involved in the maintenance side of the trucking industry since he was old enough to walk and currently runs our maintenance division as well as our sister company Makeeff Repair.
Shane Makeeff, Terry’s Oldest, followed in his footsteps and served 5 years in the United States Marine Corp. after which in 2006 became the V.P. of Makeeff Trucking and currently runs the day to day operations.
The company has grown from an exempt commodities carrier and trip leasing to having obtained rights for several commodities. In 1980 they obtained Common Carrier Authority for Shell Motor Oils, then in 1982 received Common Carrier Authority for electric welders and parts sponsored by Miller Electric Mfg. Co. Common Carrier Authority for general commodities (excluding classes A & B explosives, household goods, and commodities in bulk) were obtained in 1984. The company continued to grow when, in 1987, they received Contract Carrier Authority for general commodities nationwide. Makeeff Trucking has grown from their two truck operation to currently running eight trucks and maintaining that family atmosphere.
